Things to do for St. Patrick’s Day
St. Patrick’s Day, celebrated annually on March 17th, has transcended its origins as a religious feast day for the patron saint of Ireland to become a worldwide celebration of Irish culture. The holiday is synonymous with fun & events, making it one of the most eagerly anticipated days on the calendar for party people. But what makes St. Patrick’s Day such a universally beloved occasion?
A Global Celebration of Irish Culture
At its core, St. Patrick’s Day is a tribute to the traditions of Ireland, but you don’t have to be Irish to partake in the festivities. The holiday’s appeal lies in its open invitation to everyone to enjoy the best of Irish hospitality by wearing green, watching parades, drinking green beer and listening to Irish Music. Cities across the globe come alive with parades, events, pub crawls and a general atmosphere of good times.
A Day to Eat, Drink, and Dance
St. Patrick’s Day is famously associated with enjoying traditional Irish foods, indulging in drinks, and dancing the night away. Pubs & restaurants serve up hearty Irish fare, including corned beef and cabbage, shepherd’s pie, and soda bread, offering a taste of Ireland’s culinary delights. The day is also closely linked with the enjoyment of Irish beverages, from creamy stouts like Guinness to a wide range of Irish whiskeys and liqueurs, often dyed green for the occasion.
The holiday wouldn’t be complete without music and dance. Irish folk music sessions, or “trad sessions,” featuring instruments like the fiddle, tin whistle, and bodhrán, bring people together in a lively and communal setting. Dancing, especially to the energetic steps of Irish jigs and reels, is an expression of the culture and adds to the day’s festivities.
The best way to Celebrate: St. Patrick’s Day Pub Crawl
While there are countless ways to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, participating in a pub crawl is arguably the best method to capture the essence of the holiday. A St. Patrick’s Day Pub Crawl includes all of the elements needed for a great party. It offers participants a way to explore multiple venues, enjoy special deals on drinks, and immerse themselves in the soundtrack of the day.
Pub crawls are especially popular because they emphasize social interaction, allowing groups of friends to celebrate together and individuals to meet new people against the backdrop of the holiday’s festive atmosphere. They also provide a fantastic opportunity to explore a city’s nightlife and visit multiple pubs and bars in one night, each with its own take on St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.
St. Patrick’s Day stands out as a fun day to party because it brings together groups to drink, dance and be Irish for a day. Whether you’re toasting with a pint of green beer, enjoying a plate of corned beef, or dancing to the tunes of Irish music, St. Patrick’s Day is a day to celebrate. Joining a St. Patrick’s Day Pub Crawl is the pinnacle of this celebration, providing an adventurous and joyful way to experience the holiday to its fullest.
