San Francisco Super Bowl Guide

Super Bowl 2024 will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada with the San Francisco 49ers taking on the Kansas City Chiefs. In recent years Las Vegas has become the mecca for sports teams. The city is now home of the National Hockey League’s “Golden Knights”, the home of the National Football League’s “Raiders”, formerly of Oakland. And soon, Major League Baseball’s “Athletics”, i.e.”A’s” will also be leaving the Bay Area and headed to the desert. Luckily for Bay Area residents, Las Vegas is a short flight away, perfect for an over night or weekend getaway.

Here is CrawlSF’s guide to the events in Vegas for the week of Super Bowl 2024, in case you are able to get away and a guide to enjoying the game right here in the Bay Area.

Super Bowl Tickets

It is not too late to get seats at the Big Game. They start at $6,020 and go up from there. If you are able to score some tickets, it should be an amazing time. If not, you can still enjoy all the excitement and energy of being in the host city at one of the many viewing parties. Sin City is one of the most amazing places to party. It is designed for celebrations, so no wonder it is the number one destination for bachelor and bachelorette parties in the US.

Las Vegas Guide

Getting to Allegiant Stadium

By Bus: The San Francisco-based transportation company, M Ride, has expanded to Las Vegas! If you are looking for a great way to get to the game (on a beautiful, luxury shuttle), then grab some tickets for the M Ride Shuttle. It will be departing from 2 Locations: The Palms Casino and Circa Hotel.

Super Bowl Shuttle Bus Details

By Foot: there is a pedestrian Bridge dedicated to getting to the stadium. It is called West Hacienda Bridge and commonly referred to as “the pedestrian bridge”. It goes from Las Vegas Blvd. to the stadium. The closest hotels to the bridge are Mandalay Bay and The Delano Las Vegas. If you are going to the game, these hotels might be your best bet. If not, we recommend taking the Las Vegas Monorail. There are several that stop at any of the popular hotels and resorts and one line goes directly to Mandalay Bay. Uber, Lyft and Taxi are also an option but remember the waits could be long for rides, as there will be larger than average crowds in Las Vegas. get Monorail passes and info at this link:

By Car: Keep in mind there is no parking at the stadium. We recommend ride share or the pedestrian bridge, which you will have to use anyway, if you park at a nearby parking lot.

Ride Share and Taxi: Remember in Vegas there are designated taxi stands and ride share pick up drop off areas. Make sure you confirm the location with your concierge upon arrival, so you know exactly where to go when heading out to events, dinner or the big game. If you choose the ride share or taxi option, be sure to be dropped off and picked up at Fan Entry 2 on West Mesa Vista Ave.

Flights from SFO to Las Vegas

American Airlines, Delta, SouthWest and Spirit have added additional direct flights the week of Super Bowl between the Bay Area and Las vegas. 49ers fans who want to be closer to the action should be able to book a flight for game week. Round trip tickets start at a little over $600.

We recommend booking a package through a reputable travel site like Travelocity, Priceline or Expedia, where 4 nights at a hotel on the strip and a round trip flight can be purchased for as little as $1,600 a head, depending on which resort you choose. Some of the travel packages can get pretty pricey though, some going as high as $13,000 or $14,000. Book soon to get the best deals.

Where to Eat

If you are flying to Vegas for the festivities, we highly recommend you plan your meals in advance and make reservations. Here are some of The CrawlSF Team’s favorite spots in Sin City.

Steak Houses

Other than New York City, Las Vegas has the widest array of truly great steak houses in the country.

The Golden Steer

This quintessential old school steak house, located just off the strip in a small strip center is a must go for those who like a classic steak house ambiance and menu. Everyone who was anyone was said to have dined at the Golden Steer in the golden years of Vegas; Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Elvis and the list goes on. The booths where these famous performers once sat are marked with plaques. The place is dark and decked out with red leather round booths that look like they are straight out of a mob movie. the tuxedo-clad waiters deliver the food by cart, with platers that are covered with silver cloches. It is old school dining at its very best. It is the kind of ambiance that makes you want a martini and a jumbo shrimp cocktail. They have all the classics prepared very well in the most traditional way. Enjoy your meal with music of the rat pack playing in the back ground.

The Golden Steer
308 W Sahara Ave
Las Vegas, NV 89102

Jean Georges Steakhouse

This high end steak house is sleek and swanky, offering flame grilled steaks and seafood that are worth every penny. They offer 5A5 Kobe Beef if you really want to indulge in the best of the best. There are also well executed vegetarian dishes, if you happen to have some vegetarians in your group.

Gallagher’s

This classic New York City Steak House has found a home away from home at the New York New York Hotel in Las Vegas. They offer all the classics like wedge salad, seafood towers and dry aged steaks executed perfectly. You will feel like you are in Manhattan when dining at Gallagher’s.

Las Vegas, NV 89109

Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak and Stone Crab

Located in the forum shops at Caesar’s, the second home of Miami’s favorite steak and seafood spot serves delicious affordable food. They offer some of the best service in Las Vegas and have a really nice lunch menu as well. The wedge salad at Joe’s is the best in Vegas. The decor might not be as impressive as some of the steak houses in the big resorts but the food is absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced

Breakfast

If you happen to be one of those rare morning people, who actually have interest in breakfast in Vegas, here is our top pick.

Mon Ami Gabi

This Parisian Cafe themed restaurant at the Paris Hotel on the Strip offers a lovely breakfast in the perfect ambiance for a lazy morning meal. The dining room is quite elegant, but the outside porch is he best place to sit. It is right accross from the Bellagio and you are able to watch the fountain show from your table. It is also fun to people watch and see everyone on their morning “walk of shame”. Over Super Bowl, you may even spot some celebrities. They have a great Champagne Selection and a delicious variety of mimosas. Their crepes are especially memorable. We highly recommend the Cinnamon Crepe with a side of their thick cut applewood bacon. The service is good, in spite of how busy they are and you never feel rushed. It is a great place to ease into the day.

Best Pizza

Super Bowl is, after all, the second biggest pizza day of the year. So we have to let you in on our little secret.

Secret Pizza

Located in the Cosmopolitan Hotel, in the center of the Strip, this unmarked counter service pizzeria does everything right. They have managed to create pizza that gives the slice shops in New York a run for their money. At the end of an unmarked hallway, lined with vintage record albums, across from STK is a tiny pizza counter. there are about 3 seats in the space and a couple of vintage pin ball machines. The pizza is served on paper plates or you can order whole pies to carry out. The Cosmopolitan also has one of the best day clubs. Take a break from all the fun and soak up the alcohol with delicious secret pizza. Order a pie and while you are waiting, head to the Chandelier Bar for their secret menu item, “The Verbena” a margarita like cocktail, prepared with a flower called a Szechuan button that numbs your mouth and alters your taste. They encourage you to take a sip before biting into the edible flower and then after and see how intense the flavor of the drink becomes after. It is a must have when at the Cosmopolitan.

Super Bowl Foods

Pizza

For years Super Bowl Sunday held the title for the heaviest day of pizza consumption in the United States. Today Halloween is the only day of the year more pizza is consumed than Super Bowl Sunday. On Super Bowl Sunday more than 60% more pizza is ordered than on an ordinary day. Each year Americans consume somewhere in the ball park of 12.5 million pizzas on the big game day.

San Francisco has a wide array of pizza options to choose from, if you are enjoying the game at home or hosting a party. Here are Crawl SF’s top picks.

North Beach

Golden Boy

This unique, only in San Francisco pizzeria has been a staple in North Beach since the 1970’s . It is Sicilian style pizza with a San Francisco twist; the pizza dough is made of focaccia. Some affectionately refer to this one of a kind pizza as “Sanfrancilian”. They have a cult following and it is rare to walk past the joint, during business hours, and not see a line down the block. Luckily the line typically moves fast. You can order by the slice or the whole pie.

The business was started by Sicilian San Franciscan, Peter Sodini. Sodini loved the name of a night club back home in Italy called, Il Bimbo D’Oro, i.e.”The Golden Boy.” Sodini was a light weight boxer and adopted a nickname, eventually becoming known as “The Golden Boy.” It was only natural that in 1978 he would pass the name on to his pizzeria. The place is still run by his family members today.

Golden Boy is so iconic that, in recent years, Williams Sonoma teamed up with the pizzeria to create a Golden Boy, make at home pizza kit. The kits can be ordered here.

One thing is for sure, the early bird will get the pizza this Super Bowl Sunday. get to Golden Boy early, pre-order for delivery at Door Dash or get your sauce and crust mix from Williams Sonoma now, before it sells out. Gino and Carlos next door to Golden Boy will be showing the Super Bowl and they allow customers to bring in Golden Boy Pizza to eat during the game. Sebastian, the owner of Tony Nik’s, does as well. Cheer on the 49ers with SF’s original pizza style on February 11th.

SOMA

Joyride Pizza

Joy Ride Pizza offers decadent, thick, Detroit Style Pizza that has been all the rage in recent years. While the cheese and sauce is great, Detroit Pizza is all about the crust. It has a square crust that is light and airy with crispy, savory browned cheese on the crust, with the corner pieces the best part of the pie. There has been a lot of talk about Joy Ride and it definitely lives up to all the hype. Joy Ride offers both same day delivery and catering order options and is available in the store, at nearby Lark Bar on Market Street and through 3rd party delivery. There are multiple locations throughout the city.

Sunset

Hole in the Wall

Excellent, straight forward American Sicilian Pizza is served at this Sunset Pizza spot.

Hole in the Wall

San Francisco, CA 94122

Tenderloin

Outta Sight Pizza

Chef Eric Ehler, formerly of Mr. Jui’s, started Outta Sight pizza as a pop-up, during the pandemic. It soon moved to Hayes Valley wine bar, Fig and Thistle, for a few nights a week before opening a brick and mortar location in the Tenderloin. The space is small, with a few tables for dine-in. The first thing you notice is just how clean the space is. It is a little slice of heaven in a less than savory neighborhood. There are straightforward pies like cheese pizza, pepperoni, sausage and pepper and some interesting add on’s to give the menu its own personality. The signature is called the Madonna Slice, which is an extra cheese pizza that has basil, olive oil and aged cheese as well as fresh mozzarella. He does offer one Sicilian Pie, a cheese slice called the “Lady Lunch” for fans of thick square pizza. The pizza is predominantly made in the New York Style, a thin-crusted Neopolitan pizza with crust that is doughy on the inside, crispy on the outside and can hold up, even when loaded sown with toppings. It has been describes as “no frills pizza”, which is awesome. San Francisco has so many “fancy” dining options and they can be nice, but sometimes you want something classic and done well (that doesn’t cost a fortune). That is the charm of Outta Sight. It is straightforward pizza done with great ingredients in a very classic style. It is approachable and affordable. In spite of being located in a dicier SF neighborhood, the place gets a good crowd lined up for a slice when the doors open each day.
