Holidays in March 2026

Updated: February 27, 2026

Like to celebrate? It’s been a while since San Francisco has had some huge celebrations for The Warriors, 49ers or The Giants, but there are lots of things to celebrate in the Bay Area. There are the larger holidays, which are amazing in SF, and lots of great March Events. However, there are also a lot of fun (and maybe weird) holidays throughout the year so you can have something to celebrate almost every day. March brings the first big holiday of the year, St. Patrick’s Day as well as some other cool days like National Absinthe Day, Meatball Day and International Day of Awesomeness.

Whether you’re honoring annual traditions, mathematical constants or just indulging in food or drink, March offers something for everyone.

St. Patrick’s Day (March 17)

This cultural & religious holiday commemorates Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, and celebrates Irish heritage worldwide. Parades, green attire, shamrocks and more are symbolic of this day. While it’s a public holiday in Ireland and some U.S. regions, it is known more for parties, pub crawls and traditions like pinching those not wearing green. The Bay Area is the home of the largest St. Patrick’s Day Pub Crawl in the Nation, so if you want to have a lot of fun for St. Patrick’s Day, make sure to check it out.

International Women’s Day (March 8)

This global holiday honors the achievements of women. Originating from early 20th century labor movements, it’s now recognized by the United Nations and celebrated in over 100 countries. You can usually find lots of events, marches and more if you want to participate.

Pi Day (March 14)

Celebrated on 3/14 to match the first three digits of π (3.14), this day is a favorite among math enthusiasts. Founded in 1988 by physicist Larry Shaw, it is one of the weird holidays of the year that you don’t really need to celebrate, but why not? How do you celebrate Pi Day? I have no idea…

First Day of Spring (March 20)

The start of spring occurs when day and night are roughly equal in length. In 2026, it falls on March 20. It’s also tied to cultural events like Nowruz (Persian New Year).
