Martin Lawrence will be “Doin’ Time” in Oakland. He’s got a successful film and TV career, but he got his start in stand-up, and now the acclaimed actor and comedian returns to his stand-up comedy roots at the Paramount Theatre. Lawrence’s self-titled TV series ran for five seasons on Fox and was one of the network’s highest-rated shows during its run. He’s also known for his hilarious appearances in such films as Boomerang, House Party, Big Momma’s House and Death at a Funeral. Next up, he’s set to reprise his role as Detective Marcus Burnett in the third installment of the Bad Boys film series, to be released in 2017. He’s been so successful, many forget he started in stand-up. He was the host of Def Comedy Jam and worked the stand-up circuit, slaying audiences with his observations on everything from relationships to kids to Jeffrey Dahmer. Lawrence shines on screen, but when you see him live, you’ll get a firsthand look at the heart, passion and “you know what I’m talkin’ about” down-to-earth comedy.
