Best Places to Get Pie in San Francisco
National Pie Day 2026 takes place on Friday, January 23
I have a rule when it comes to eating things that are bad for you. That rule is that I only will eat sweet treats, deep fried snacks, etc. if it is absolutely delicious. My wife doesn’t have that rule and when it comes to any type of sugary snack, she will pretty much anything that is sweet (except anything that combines fruit or peanut butter with chocolate). During the holidays, she is perfectly happy eating a cherry pie from Safeway and will love every bite. I don’t eat as many sweet treats and since they are foods that really are not good for you in any way, I will only eat them if they are the best of the best. Safeway cherry pies do not make that list.
Pretty much nothing will beat a homeade pie baked by someone who is a good cook. Most people probably had a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, etc. who made pies that just can’t be beat. If you don’t know how to make pies, don’t have the time or don’t have someone to bring you a homemade pie, then the next best thing would be to grab one from one of the many bakeries in the San Francisco Bay Area.
If you feel like celebrating National Pie Day with some of the best options in San Francisco, we put together a list of great places to try. Is the list complete? Of course not. While we surely might have missed a few great spots, the places listed below are sure to make you smile as you take your first bite. Feel free to let us know if we are missing any other great bakeries!
Best Pie in San Francisco
Three Babes Bakeshop
When you ask someone where the best pies in the city are, you will typically hear Three Babes Bakeshop as a suggestion. They focus on handcrafted pies with organic, local ingredients. They have a wide selection of pies and some great seasonal options at different times of the year. Great for whole pies or slices. Plus they offer nationwide shipping so you can enjoy their pies all over the US. I have only tried one pie there because it is absolute perfection and I really can’t bring myself to order anything else. The Bourbon Pecan Pie is epic.

Butter Love Bakeshop
For me, the difference between a good pie and a great pie is always the crust. Butter Love has, in my opinion, the best pie crust in the city for both sweet and savory pies. They have a delicious pumpkin pie that is worth getting around the holidays, but probably their best tasting pie is the savory chicken pot pie.

Tartine Bakery
If you live in or around San Francisco, you have probably heard of Tartine Bakery. This place is probably the best overall bakery in SF. Although this article is about pies, I have to say that if you had to only get one thing from Tartine, I would absolutely recommend their country bread. It is crisp (almost burnt, but in a good way) on the outside and soft and delcious on the inside. They also have a huge variety of baked goods. If you are looking for pies, they are well know for their banana cream pie. You can also order some amazing pumpkin or pecan pies for the holidays (order early since they get really busy)

Fillmore Bakeshop
If I had to pick a favorite type of pie, I would probably say blueberry. However, most people I know would say cherry pie is the best. If you are looking for an incredibly good cherry pie, then Fillmore Bakeshop is the spot.

Black Jet Baking Co
This place is more bakery than pie shop, but they do have a great pumpkin pie. However, the thing to get at Black Jet is their homemade pop tart. It is similar to your pop tart out of the bow, but a million times better.

Peasant Pies
This place creates a big variety of mini pies that come in both sweet and savory flavors. They are honestly all really good, but some of the one I like best are the Strawberry Rhubarb, French Berry Custard and Beef & Potato Pie.

Boho Petite
Boho Petite in the Marina is a French Bakery that you might walk past without even realizing it is there. I am actually not sure how the pie is there (or if they even sell pie), but since we are talking about sweet treats, I can’t help but mention my favorite treat in the city. Their Cinnamon Roll is the best thing ever. It is perfectly crispy with butter, sugar and cinnamon almost caramelized around the edges. Then it is topped off with some sort of magical icing that bring it all together. If I had to recommend one sweet thing in the city, this would be it.
