San Francisco Ballet – Tiny Dances: Swan Lake

Introduce young children to the beauty of live ballet with San Francisco Ballet’s Tiny Dances: Swan Lake, a family-friendly performance designed especially for audiences ages 2 to 8. This special presentation takes place on Sunday, November 8, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Palace of Fine Arts Theatre in San Francisco, with doors opening at 10:00 AM.

Tiny Dances is San Francisco Ballet’s new family series created to make ballet an accessible and enjoyable first performing-arts experience for young children. Rather than presenting a lengthy traditional production, the series features shorter performances and a welcoming atmosphere tailored to the attention spans and curiosity of younger audiences. Families can experience the excitement of live dance while children discover the music, movement, characters, and storytelling that make ballet such a distinctive art form.

The inaugural production, Tiny Dances: Swan Lake, offers a specially adapted version of the beloved classical ballet. Antonio Castilla, San Francisco Ballet Associate Artistic Director, has reimagined Swan Lake for younger viewers, preserving the beauty of its music and choreography while presenting its story in a format that is easier for children to follow.

An on-stage narrator helps guide the audience through the adventure, introducing the story and providing context as the dancers perform. This interactive storytelling approach gives children a clearer connection to the characters and events while allowing them to appreciate the expressive qualities of ballet.

Adding to the experience, the production is performed by San Francisco Ballet School’s pre-professional Trainees and Level 8 students. Their performance gives young audience members an opportunity to see emerging dancers bring this classic story to life on stage.

Held at the Palace of Fine Arts Theatre, Tiny Dances: Swan Lake is designed as more than a performance—it is an opportunity for discovery. Parents, grandparents, and caregivers can share a memorable cultural experience with children while introducing them to live theater and dance in an environment created specifically for families.

Whether this is your child’s first ballet or an opportunity to build on an existing interest in dance, San Francisco Ballet – Tiny Dances: Swan Lake offers an engaging introduction to classical ballet through accessible storytelling, live performance, and imagination.

Join San Francisco Ballet on Sunday, November 8, 2026, at 11:00 AM. Doors open at 10:00 AM, and the production is intended for children ages 2 to 8 and their families.
