Team USA Block Party Brings World Cup Excitement to Union Street on June 25

San Francisco soccer fans will have a new way to cheer for the United States when the Team USA Block Party takes over Union Street on Thursday, June 25, 2026.

The special event will bring World Cup energy to the Marina and Cow Hollow area as the United States faces Türkiye in its final Group D match. The game kicks off at 7PM, but the celebration on Union Street will begin several hours earlier and continue from 3PM to 10PM.

Fans can watch the match at participating bars, meet other Team USA supporters and enjoy drinks outdoors within the newly established Union Street Entertainment Zone. It will be the first activation of the new zone. I miss the days of the old Union Street Fair in the 2010s when you could also walk down the street with a drink in your hand, so this is a welcome new addition to Union Street & the Marina.

Whether you want to settle in at a bar for the entire match or move between participating locations, Union Street will offer a lively setting for one of Team USA’s most important games of the group stage.

Team USA Faces Türkiye in Its Final Group Stage Match

The United States will enter the June 25 match knowing that its performance could play an important role in determining what comes next in the tournament.

Türkiye and the United States will meet at 7PM at Los Angeles Stadium in Southern California. If you are wondering what Los Angeles Stadium is, it is actually SoFi Stadium, which has be rebranded for the World Cup.

World Cup matches are often more exciting when watched with other fans, so this should be a really cool event. Every close chance, save and goal feels bigger when an entire room reacts at once. The Team USA Block Party is designed to bring that atmosphere to one of San Francisco’s best restaurant and nightlife streets. Participating Union Street businesses will show the game, serve food and drinks and welcome fans throughout the afternoon and evening. People can choose a favorite location or walk between participating establishments before kickoff.

The Entertainment Zone adds another option. During the approved event hours, guests who are 21 or older can purchase a drink from a participating business and carry it outside within the marked zone. That means fans will not have to remain inside one bar for the entire event. They can step outside, meet friends on the sidewalk and take in the neighborhood atmosphere while keeping their approved drink with them. A lot of bars will probably have tvs that can be seen from the sidewalk as well, so it will be fun to be outside with a bunch of fun people watching the game.

The First Event in the Union Street Entertainment Zone

The Team USA Block Party is more than a World Cup watch party. It also marks the beginning of a new type of event programming for Union Street.

District 2 Supervisor Stephen Sherrill introduced the legislation that created the Union Street Entertainment Zone. The plan is intended to make it easier to organize special events that bring people together while supporting neighborhood restaurants, bars and other small businesses.

The official zone includes both sides of Union Street between Gough Street and Steiner Street. It also includes Fillmore Street between Union Street and Greenwich Street. During an approved activation, participating restaurants and bars can sell alcoholic drinks in special to go cups. Guests can then enjoy those drinks on sidewalks and other approved public areas inside the zone.

The June 25 block party will give residents and visitors a chance to see how the program works during a major sporting event. Instead of watching the match at home or remaining in one location all night, fans can experience the game as part of a larger neighborhood gathering.

The format is especially well suited to Union Street where restaurants, bars, cafés and shops are located within a relatively short walk of one another.

What Are Entertainment Zones in San Francisco?

Entertainment Zones are designated parts of San Francisco where participating licensed businesses can sell alcoholic drinks for outdoor consumption during approved events and hours. Under normal circumstances, customers generally cannot leave a bar or restaurant while carrying an open alcoholic beverage. An active Entertainment Zone creates a limited exception within a clearly marked area.

The drinks must come from participating restaurants, bars, breweries or wineries. They are served in approved compostable or reusable cups rather than glass or metal containers. Guests can carry those drinks through the active zone, but they cannot take them outside its boundaries.

Entertainment Zones are not active every day simply because a neighborhood has received the designation. Outdoor drinking is only permitted during an authorized event and during its approved operating hours.

The program has been used for street parties, holiday events, pub crawls, live entertainment and sports gatherings. The goal is to create a social outdoor setting while bringing more customers to nearby businesses. It does not turn an entire neighborhood into a permanent open container area. Each activation has defined hours, boundaries, participating businesses and safety requirements.

How the Union Street Entertainment Zone Works

During the Team USA Block Party, guests who plan to purchase or consume alcohol must be at least 21 years old and should bring a valid photo ID.

Participants drinking outdoors may be required to wear an event wristband confirming that they are 21 or older. Staff at participating businesses or designated event stations may check identification and distribute wristbands. Alcoholic beverages must be purchased from a participating licensed business. Personal drinks and alcohol purchased elsewhere are not covered by the Entertainment Zone rules. A fanny pack full of White Claws is not a suitable accessory for the event.

Drinks must also remain inside the marked zone. Guests should look for signs showing where the Entertainment Zone begins and ends.

The official Union Street area includes:

Union Street between Gough Street and Steiner Street

Fillmore Street between Union Street and Greenwich Street

The approved zone includes the sidewalks and public rights-of-way along those sections, along with participating licensed businesses adjacent to the area. Visitors should follow posted signs and any instructions from event staff. Before leaving the zone, guests must finish their beverage or dispose of the approved cup.

Individual bars and restaurants will continue to follow the requirements of their own liquor licenses. Admission rules, seating policies and age restrictions may therefore differ from one business to another.

A New Kind of Neighborhood Watch Party

San Francisco has been expanding its Entertainment Zone program as the city looks for new ways to support local business districts and create outdoor public events.

For Union Street, the Team USA Block Party is a fitting first event.

A World Cup match already gives people a reason to gather. Adding outdoor social areas allows the excitement to spread beyond individual bars and onto the sidewalks, where fans can meet, celebrate and move between participating locations.

It also gives people a reason to arrive early and spend more time in the neighborhood. Fans can get something to eat, visit local businesses and find a place to watch before the match begins.

Union Street has long been known for its collection of restaurants, shops and nightlife venues. The Entertainment Zone provides another way to bring those businesses together during major games, holidays and other special occasions.

If the first activation is successful, the zone could become the setting for more neighborhood celebrations in the future.
