San Francisco certainly has its fair share of unique annual events, but the San Francisco Street Fairs are definitely some of the best. Starting in late spring every year, street fairs take over the city as each of San Francisco’s unique neighborhoods closes off a few streets and people flock to the area to enjoy delicious local foods, shop at the vendor booths and listen to some great live music. Each one of the festivals has its own unique spin that accents the culture of the neighborhood, so you can expect a little something different at each event.
Haight-Ashbury doesn’t really need a reason to attract people to the area. The historic neighborhood is one of the most popular tourist areas for visitors who want to see the epicenter of the Summer of Love, the places where the members of the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane and Janice Joplin lived and take a walk to hippie hill to see the location of the best 420 celebration in the nation. So, it’s no surprise that when the street fair circuit hits the Haight, hordes of people head to the area.
The event takes over Haight Street from Masonic Ave down to Stanyan Street, where Haight-Ashbury meets Golden Gate Park. The street are lined with with well over 100 vendor booths featuring local brands and traveling artisans like Sunde White Industries, Pop Nation, SF Mercantile, Charles Wong T’s, Klapnklip Soy Candles, Ambiance and more. Make sure you go the the festival hungry, because you will find an amazing variety of everything from BBQ to Garlic Fries with a few sweet treats available as well. And what says Haight-Ashbury more than some great live music. The Haight-Ashbury Street Fair features a huge stage where a some great bands perform all day long.
From the debut festival on April 30, 1978 to present, The Haigh-Ashbury Street Fair has become one of the must do events in San Francisco. Check out this great event that takes place every June.
