Build strength from the center out at Weekly Fitness Classes | Athletic Core, a free community fitness session at Thrive City presented by Kaiser Permanente. As part of Thrive City’s seasonal fitness programming from September through November, the class offers an accessible way for Bay Area residents and visitors to stay active, challenge themselves, and connect with movement in an open-air community setting. Participants of all fitness levels are welcome, so you do not need to consider yourself an athlete to take part.
Athletic Core is a core-focused conditioning class designed to help participants develop strength, stability, and body control. The session emphasizes the muscles that support everyday movement and athletic performance, creating a workout that can complement a wide range of fitness routines. Whether you regularly train or are simply looking for a new way to move, the class provides an opportunity to focus on your core while building a stronger, more centered foundation.
Leading the session is Cecily Guest, a longtime Bay Area yoga and fitness instructor with 30 years of experience teaching for fitness brands and corporate audiences. Her approach to movement incorporates a variety of disciplines, including dance, Pilates, martial arts, personal training, and different yogic traditions. Guest is returning for her third year teaching Thrive City classes and also teaches at Equinox Fitness, in addition to hosting workshops and yoga retreats throughout California.
Her professional certifications include A.C.E., AFAA, Yoga Fit, Diablo Yoga Center, SCW Pilates, and Reebok Indoor Cycling. Her diverse background brings together multiple movement styles, making the session an opportunity to explore core conditioning within a broader approach to fitness and body awareness.
Participants should bring a mat and a bottle of water. Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Parking is available seven days a week at the Chase Center Garage at 99 Warriors Way.
Guests should review Thrive City’s venue guidelines before attending. Prohibited items and activities include weapons, outside alcohol, smoking, drones, amplified sound, coolers, lawn chairs, bicycles, skateboards, roller blades, scooters, tents, and overnight camping. Pets must remain leashed, while trained service animals are welcome according to venue guidelines.
For anyone looking to strengthen their core and add a focused conditioning session to their routine, Athletic Core at Thrive City offers a welcoming way to get moving and leave feeling stronger and more grounded.
