The Moth SF StorySLAM: STRANGE ENCOUNTERS 2026

Get ready for an evening of unforgettable true stories, unexpected twists, and wonderfully strange experiences at The Moth SF StorySLAM: STRANGE ENCOUNTERS 2026, coming to Public Works in San Francisco on Tuesday, October 27 at 7:30 PM PDT.

Part of The Moth’s celebrated live storytelling tradition, this StorySLAM invites storytellers and audience members to gather around a shared theme and discover the remarkable stories hiding inside ordinary—and sometimes extraordinary—lives. With “Strange Encounters” as the theme, expect tales of unusual meetings, bizarre coincidences, unexpected adventures, awkward moments, mysterious situations, and encounters that leave a lasting impression.

A StorySLAM is more than a conventional stage show. It is an intimate and unpredictable evening built around real people telling true stories from their own lives. Some storytellers may arrive with carefully crafted tales, while others may step onto the stage ready to take a chance and share a personal experience. The result is a lively atmosphere where humor, vulnerability, suspense, surprise, and human connection can emerge from one story to the next.

For audience members, the appeal is in not knowing exactly what will happen. Every story offers a different perspective, and even the strangest experiences can reveal something familiar about relationships, identity, chance, fear, friendship, or simply being human. The format encourages listeners to laugh, empathize, reflect, and occasionally see their own experiences in a completely different way.

Hosted at Public Works, a distinctive San Francisco venue known for bringing together creative communities and memorable cultural experiences, the event offers an engaging setting for an evening devoted entirely to the art of storytelling.

Whether you’re a longtime fan of The Moth, an aspiring storyteller, or simply someone who enjoys hearing fascinating true stories, STRANGE ENCOUNTERS 2026 promises an evening full of surprises.
