Hosted by the Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California (JCCCNC), this beloved annual event promises an enchanting evening filled with cultural performances, crafts, and festive fun for the city’s littlest ghosts and goblins.

Event Details:

Date: Friday, October 25, 2024

Time: 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Location: Japanese Cultural and Community Center, 1840 Sutter St, San Francisco, CA

Admission: $5 at the door

From 6PM to 8PM, families are invited to join in the festivities at the Center, where a lively lineup of Halloween activities will entertain children and adults alike. With general admission set at an affordable $5 at the door, this community-centered celebration welcomes all to experience the magic of Halloween in the heart of Japantown.

Highlights of the evening include a costume parade and contest, where children are encouraged to show off their spooky, cute, or creative costumes. Prizes will be awarded for categories such as Cutest, Scariest, Most Creative, Best Overall, and Most Spirited Group/Family—ensuring that both individual effort and family collaborations are celebrated. Whether it’s a tiny vampire, a hand-crafted robot, or a coordinated family of superheroes, everyone is sure to get into the Halloween spirit.

In addition to the costume festivities, kids can enjoy a variety of Halloween-themed crafts and activities, allowing them to create their own spooky souvenirs to take home. For those with extra energy, a bounce house will provide the perfect outlet for some high-flying fun. Throughout the evening, cultural and community performances will spotlight the rich heritage of Japantown, adding a unique and enriching element to the Halloween celebration.

And for those feeling a bit peckish, a scary snack sale will be held, with all proceeds going to support the Japanese Community Youth Council (JCYC)’s youth programs, which benefit local children and teens throughout the year. It’s a chance to indulge in some Halloween treats while also contributing to a worthy cause.

With its blend of playful activities, cultural engagement, and strong community ties, the Japantown Children’s Halloween Carnival is more than just a Halloween party—it’s a reflection of the neighborhood’s vibrant spirit and dedication to creating memorable experiences for families.
