Iron & Wine with Ken Pomeroy — Event Description

Iron & Wine comes to the stage with Ken Pomeroy on Friday, October 16, 2026, offering audiences an evening of thoughtful songwriting, richly textured arrangements, and the intimate musical sensibility that has defined Sam Beam’s work. Doors open at 7:00 pm, with the show beginning at 8:00 pm.

At the center of the evening is Sam Beam, the singer-songwriter behind Iron & Wine, whose latest creative chapter is represented by Hen’s Teeth, his eighth full-length album and sixth release for Sub Pop Records. Beam describes the album’s title as suggesting something impossible—a gift that should not exist, yet somehow does. That idea captures the spirit of a record created after a years-long writing dry spell, when inspiration finally returned with unusual force.

Hen’s Teeth and Beam’s 2024 album, Light Verse, were recorded during the same sessions at Waystation studio in Laurel Canyon with the same group of musicians. Beam credits the band’s ability to push him toward ideas he might not have discovered alone, embracing spontaneity and the freedom to follow songs wherever they lead. The musicians connected so quickly that some tracks were completed in only a few takes, with multiple songs sometimes recorded in a single day.

While the two albums share a creative origin, their personalities differ. Light Verse is airy, impressionistic, and often playful, while Hen’s Teeth takes a darker, earthier, and more tactile approach. Beam explored different genres across the record, drawing inspiration from folk rock, jazz-inflected folk, Tropicalia, and other traditions. Songs such as “Roses,” “Robin’s Egg,” “Singing Saw,” and “In Your Ocean” reflect that broader musical and Paul Cartwright contribute to the recordings, while the trio I’m With Her appears on “Robin’s Egg” and “Wait Up.” Beam’s daughter, Arden Beam, adds harmonies and backing palette.

The album also emphasizes collaboration. David Garza, Sebastian Steinberg, Tyler Chester, Griffin Goldsmith, Beth Goodfellow, Kyle Crane, and Paul Cartwright contribute to the recordings, while the trio I’m With Her appears on “Robin’s Egg” and “Wait Up.” Beam’s daughter, Arden Beam, adds harmonies and backing vocals to several tracks, bringing an especially personal dimension to the project.

With Ken Pomeroy joining the bill, the October 16 event offers local audiences an opportunity to spend an evening immersed in carefully crafted songwriting and collaborative musicianship. For longtime Iron & Wine listeners, it provides a chance to hear Beam’s newest artistic direction; for newcomers, it offers an introduction to an artist whose music continues to evolve through experimentation, friendship, and an enduring love of making music together.
