Their latest chapter arrives with Coin-O-Matic, the band’s ninth studio album and a particularly personal exploration of their Rhode Island roots.

Coin-O-Matic draws inspiration from the hidden histories and complicated characters of Rhode Island, where working-class life, family stories, Catholic traditions, and the shadow of organized crime intersect. Rather than simply recounting local history, Deer Tick uses these elements to explore universal themes of grief, desperation, redemption, resilience, love, regret, and the passage of time.

A major part of the album’s character comes from the band’s decision to self-produce and record it at their home studio. Guest appearances from Los Lobos’ Steve Berlin on baritone saxophone and former Deer Tick member Rob Crowell on organ add further color to the recordings.
