Rather than following a single genre or formula, Orton’s albums are connected by their emotional depth, distinctive voice, and willingness to explore unfamiliar territory.

Her latest work, The Ground Above, continues that evolution while taking a more direct and grounded approach. The album considers survival, love, grief, aging, motherhood, uncertainty, and the ongoing process of finding strength. Its songs move between raw, searching passages and more expansive melodies influenced by spiritual jazz, improvisation, and classic songwriting traditions. His career includes work with symphonies, extensive recording projects, and performances alongside artists including Stevie Wonder, Jaco Pastorius, and Paul Horn.
