An Evening With Drink The Sea

An Evening With Drink The Sea brings an extraordinary lineup of musicians to The Chapel in San Francisco on Saturday, September 5, 2026, for an immersive night of music, film, and international collaboration. Featuring Peter Buck of R.E.M., Barrett Martin of Screaming Trees and Mad Season, Alain Johannes of Eleven and Queens of the Stone Age, Duke Garwood of the Mark Lanegan Band, and percussionist Lisette Garcia, the evening promises a richly textured performance unlike a typical concert.

Drink The Sea will perform selections from their three-album catalog alongside songs connected to the members’ celebrated former bands. The music draws from years of experience across rock, alternative, experimental, and world music, creating a sound that feels both familiar and otherworldly. Traditional guitar, bass, and drums are expanded with Arabic oud, Indian sitar, Indonesian gamelan, Brazilian surdo, frame drums, vibraphone, marimba, kalimba, and other distinctive percussion instruments.

The project’s international origins add another layer to the experience. What began with Alain Johannes and Barrett Martin jamming together in Olympia in 2022 evolved into a creative journey spanning England, Iceland, Brazil, Joshua Tree, Chile, Barcelona, and beyond. The resulting recordings reflect the chemistry of musicians working across borders and musical traditions.

The performance will also incorporate films by award-winning filmmaker Tad Fettig, making An Evening With Drink The Sea as much an audiovisual experience as a live concert. Fans of R.E.M., Screaming Trees, Mad Season, Queens of the Stone Age, and adventurous, genre-blending music will find plenty to discover.

The event takes place at The Chapel in San Francisco. Doors open at 8:00 PM, with the show beginning at 9:00 PM. Tickets are $45 in advance and $50 on the day of the show. ADA seating is available by advance request, and guests can also dine at Curio before the performance for expedited entry into The Chapel.
