Goldenvoice presents Soulwax: Portola Pre-Party on Thursday, September 24, offering San Francisco nightlife fans a chance to spend the evening with one of electronic music’s most inventive acts. Their work consistently explores the space between live performance, DJ culture, remixing, and immersive sound.

Soulwax’s influence extends well beyond their own recordings. Their 2002 2manydjs album, As Heard on Radio Soulwax Pt 2, helped establish an influential approach to remixing and combining contrasting musical sources. As Soulwax, they have continued that experimentation through releases including Nite Versions, From DEEWEE, and Essential. The latter grew from their BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix, with the group creating an entire hour of original music rather than simply assembling a conventional DJ mix.

Their creative history also includes Radio Soulwax, a project that combined music and visuals into a distinctive audiovisual experience, and Despacio, the custom sound system created with James Murphy and designed around the physical experience of listening and dancing. These projects reflect the Dewaeles’ longstanding interest in treating sound as an environment rather than simply a soundtrack.

The Portola Pre-Party setting makes the September 24 event especially suited to listeners who enjoy electronic music that moves between genres and formats.
