Bobby Bare Jr. at The Chapel

Get ready for an intimate night of roots-driven rock, sharp songwriting, and stories from a career that has crossed generations of American music. Bobby Bare Jr. (of Guided By Voices) comes to The Chapel in San Francisco on Monday, September 14, 2026, bringing a remarkable catalog that spans country, alt-country, indie rock, and alternative music. For this special tour, Bare will perform in a drums-and-guitar duo format, revisiting both new and older material in a stripped-down setting.

A Nashville native, Bobby Bare Jr. grew up surrounded by some of country music’s most influential figures. His career began remarkably early: at just eight years old, he recorded the Shel Silverstein-penned country duet “Daddy What If” with his father, Country Music Hall of Fame member Bobby Bare Sr. The recording earned a Grammy nomination and helped introduce Bare Jr. to the music world long before he began carving out his own artistic identity.

That identity developed through a diverse series of musical chapters. Bare Jr. fronted the rock band Bare Jr. in the late 1990s, releasing two albums through Immortal/Epic Records before embarking on a long-running solo career centered on alt-country and independent music. His songwriting has consistently blended humor, vulnerability, anger, and reflection, drawing on the influence of his Nashville upbringing while refusing to remain confined to one genre.

Beyond his own recordings, Bare has become a sought-after collaborator, producer, guitarist, and backing vocalist. His work has included collaborations connected to the Silver Jews, production of his father’s The Moon Was Blue, and the Shel Silverstein tribute project Twistable, Turnable Man. Since 2016, he has also toured as a guitarist and backing vocalist with Guided by Voices, while continuing to work on new material with Frank Black of The Pixies.

This San Francisco performance offers a chance to hear Bare’s songs in an intimate and energetic format. Doors open at 7:00 PM, with the show beginning at 8:00 PM. Tickets are $25 for standing admission or $38 for seated admission. ADA seating can be requested in advance through the venue.

Whether you know Bobby Bare Jr. from his solo work, his Nashville roots, Guided by Voices, or his many collaborations, this performance promises an engaging evening of songs, stories, and rock ’n’ roll spirit at The Chapel.
