He began professionally as a protégé of legendary composer Elmer Bernstein before gaining widespread attention for his work on Battlestar Galactica in 2004. Since then, his credits have expanded across television, film, games, and concert music, making him one of the most recognizable contemporary composers working across multiple forms of media.

McCreary’s extensive résumé includes Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Apple TV+’s Foundation, Outlander, The Walking Dead, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and the Oscar-nominated documentary Crip Camp.
