SAN FRANCISCO — On the eve of the NFC Championship game, 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree is under investigation for sexual assault, San Francisco police said Friday.
Crabtree has been questioned about an alleged of a sexual assault that occurred in the easrly morning hours Sundayin an unnamed San Francisco hotel, police said in a news release.
The incident is being investigated by the Special Victims Unit, the release said.
Police said Crabtree has been interviewed with his lawyer present and has cooperated in the investigation. Crabtree has not been detained or arrested and has agreed to make himself available to investigators in the future, police said.
When the investigation is completed, it will be presented to the District Attorney’s Office for review.
It is unclear if the allegation will affect Crabtree’s playtime in the NFC Championship game on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.
Authorities didn’t release any further details, and a spokesman for the 49ers had no immediate comment.
